Safe-5-Steps Scam

Postby wjn » Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:34 pm

Almost fell for this scam.

It starts out with an ad on Craigslist, a too good to be true item for sale, (New Mac Laptop for 1k off due to his employer providing the exact same laptop)and some back and forth emails. The seller directs you to a escrow site named <http://www.safe-5-steps.com/index.php> and says that he is now in London and the Laptop is in Washington DC, he then asks for your name and shipping address which of course would lead to the money transfer and a quick loss of 2k.

Thanks,

Bill

WATCH OUT FOR THIS EMAIL! They are trying to recruit folks in the US to open bank accounts and conduct western union transfers for clients across the world. The registered address goes to new zealand. They claim to be a legit business out of the UK. BS!

safe-5-steps fraud

Postby roferon » Mon Apr 16, 2007 12:19 am

Well, I did fall for this fraud unfortunately. And, it cost me $2000. What a fool am I, but I want everyone to know about this so they too don't fall victim.

Craigslist posting about a Mac G5...again, too good to be true. The seller, Peter McDaniel petermcdnl@yahoo.com, said the computer was in San Francisco and they would ship the computer to me once the money was sent Western Union. Unfamiliar with online escrow frauds, I sent the money. Two days later, after hearing nothing, I did some more in-depth searching on the internet, only to come up frustrated.

I hope this helps other would-be-buyers to be weary of these escrow services. http://Www.safe-5-steps.com is a fraud!

Safe purchasing.

Sorry to hear you lost out to these scam artists PM. I have been working with the Feds to get it shut down and the good news is that it is now gone from the internet. Too bad the scammers are still there. This group loves to use Craigslist and I see a new one each week.
Like Craigslist says, deal only with local people, even then you have to watch out.

That is the best news I have heard all day. Congratulations on getting that scam off of the internet. I try to make as many postings on Craigslist warning people about fraudulent online escrows and the scams people pull who try to buy/sell through them. Knowing that no more people can fall victim to that site is very satisfying. Thanks!

Thanks roferon. I am trying to get <http://www.goldshipp-cargo.com> shut down next. See my posting of today (04/25/2007). They are running the same scam and may be the the same group.
