I got an email from someone who wanted me to ship him a laptop when he pays by express-trader.net.

Eventually I got lucky and realized the verisign logo on their page was a fake. JavaScript sets the statusbar to https://digitalid.verisign.com/,.... whereas it actually loads http://www.express-trader.net/VeriSign.php

I could have lost over $1400

I never even considered the possibility of JavaScript usage to create a https:// url. Hmmmm, nice 1.

I'll Have to put you on the team of investigators.

Good eye. I usually check out the "Claims" to cerification. Problem is that some sites (like Yahoo Partners) don't have an easy way (or even not so easy way) of validating claims.
