Hi everyone. I intended to purchase a Marantz CD-7 CD player from a guy in Spain. I suggested paypal but he said he does not have an account. He suggested this escrow company instead. Its supposedly called "A.D. Air Cargo Business SA". Anyone know if this is legitimate or a scam? Your advise is greatly appreciated.

it's a scam. The "seller" is the scammer himself. Please post the name he is using and the email address.

The actual site content can be found here: http://askatrans.uphero.com/; http://www.air-cargo-business.intec.es/ is only the frame around it.

With the following descriptions as well as some really nice pictures:
Marantz CD-7, l'un des meilleurs lecteur de CD de tous les temps. Son fantastique. Fabrique a 500 exemplaires. En parfait etat de functionnement. Avec télécommande. Manuel.
The person posting it used this email to correspond:
vic.manuel2009@gmail.com
He calls himself Victor Manuel.
Ad has now been removed by the web admin/ended by scammer himself.

In my first message to him on www.2ememain.be, i ask whether he is willing to ship to Malaysia.
He subsequently replies to my email and the following email correspondence ensues:

Here is Spain the time needed to wait for clearings is very long and fees are high so I closed my PayPal account. I'm not able to make the transaction by PayPal. But the transaction will be managed and insured by the transporter.

As i have not heard of nor had any experience in dealing with this company before, kindly allow me to do some due diligence before committing to the deal. I am now attempting to verify the legitimacy of this escrow company through a friend of mine who lives in Spain.

Hi Jeff, of course, check the company. It is based in Madrid, registered in the Commercial Registry of Spain, I used it before several times.

My friend who stays in Getafe says he has never heard of this company. Further, checks with Spanish Mercantile Registry turns up a negative result. I would suggest escrow.com if you would like to pay using an escrow service

How turns up a negative result? and if he is not from Madrid, but Getafe it's possible not to know the company. How could he know all the companies?

The company does not exist. It is not registered. I ran a search using both the registration number and also the company name provided on the supposed website.
Also, my friend went today to look for the company at the address listed on the company website. He went up and down the street but no such company exists.

If you are genuinely selling the Marantz CD-7 i don't see why alternative payment options aren't acceptable.

Further,
Escrow.com charges approximately 40 euros for the transaction. I am willing to bear that amount as well as the shipping fee.
So, if you genuinely have a Marantz CD-7 to sell, I don't see why a safer option is not acceptable.
